DEF provides college and career access services to the lower Delmarva Peninsula, focusing our efforts in 3 counties: Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The lower Delmarva Peninsula region includes seven counties:Sussex County in Delaware; Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester counties in Maryland; Accomack and Northampton counties in Virginia. These counties have similar issues and concerns, relating more to each other than their respective state capital cities, which are urban rather than rural in nature. Therefore we work in this area as one region, across state lines. We believe this presents a more useful picture when conducting research and analysis, while providing more effective services to our public.
This predominantly rural region supports the following industries, among others: Poultry, Agriculture, Seafood, Timber, and Tourism.
